This was a big win for Arsenal, in both terms of their positional battle and overall momentum. An impressive, inspiring and memorable win. If we are going to be honest though, there is no way they should have got it. This one should have been a Liverpool victory. That’s all there is to it. They bossed the game and created a glut of chances and yet still found a way to lose. Ladies and Gentlemen – Liverpool football 2012 style!

Anfield, Saturday March 3
A few good games to pick from this week, but we’ll be focusing on the Reds-Gunners clash at Anfield. Two proud and historic clubs who both have their eyes on greater things than they have achieved this season – this one looms as an action packed encounter between two clubs that are really on a roll.

It was a memorable day at Emirates Stadium. Astonishing really. Frustrating, gut wrenching, marvellous, inspiring, joyous. Stark depression. Sudden inspiration. Massive euphoria. All against the backdrop of mild annoyance that this once mighty club has the potential to do so much more, and doesn’t…and you know, the omnipresent questioning of where the hell *has* all the damn money gone? A microcosm of the past five years for Gunners fans I suppose. No wonder they are all suffering from mood swings.

Sunday 26 February, Emirates Stadium
In life, there are certain folks who just don’t get along. Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock. Kevin Rudd and the Labor Party. It can’t be helped. Some people just don’t like each other. That’s all there is to it.

It was another wild and wacky night in the Europa League – come from behind victories, a rash of bookings as the game jumped up a notch, and it closed off with allegations of inappropriate chanting toward Mario Balotelli by the Porto fans. Locations change. Racist parochialism it appears, does not. If anybody was thinking that England cornered the market on the douchebag fan market, I think this game probably clears things up.

It’s been a fun filled year for Porto so far, who have spent the season battling Benfica, (and apparently the ground staff at Benfica in an incident that led to 5 charges) for Liga supremacy. The real test for them however lies in Europa – a competition Porto has always punched above its weight in. They’ll need all the giant killing skills they possess here, taking on a Manchester City side that probably possesses more stars then the Liga combined.

It was a weekend that went a long way toward sorting the contenders from the pretenders in the Premier League. United held of Liverpool in a spiteful, drama packed clash – and Tottenham absolutely annihilated the would-be upstarts from Newcastle in a 5-0 drumming that brought a smile to growing White Hart Lane army.

Saturday February 11 – White Hart Lane
It was hard not to pick the United v Liverpool showdown as the match of the week this week – but we’ve had lots of Reds and Red Devils over the past month, and very little of the Spurs and the Toons. And apparently during that time we’ve been missing quite a show. Sitting third on fifth on the table respectively, Tottenham and Newcastle have shown they belong amongst the competition elite, and have been giving some of the bigger, deeper pocketed clubs a run for their money.

The game itself was wild and wacky. Challenges were being called erratically. Players were diving in the penalty box like they were being shot with sniper rifles. Both managers complained about the refereeing – at one point Ferguson became so irate after one non-call he could be seen on the field gesticulating like a man who was being attacked by imaginary bees. The game was dramatic, high octane and perhaps the best game we’ve seen in the Premier League this year…but at the end of the day what this game will be remembered for was the comeback.

February 5, Stamford Bridge
It may not have quite the lustre of previous years, but there is still enough history, enough bad blood, enough talent and enough precociousness involved for the footballing world to take notice whenever Chelsea takes on United in the Premier League. Chelsea may not be the dominant force they were under Mourinho. United may not even be the best team in Manchester anymore. But if your blood doesn’t quicken a little at the thought of Chelski duking it out with the Red Devils then you may want to undergo the old Turing test when you next get a chance, because you my friend may very well be a robot.
