Goodison Park, Sunday, October 17
The timing for this one couldn’t be much worse for the Reds, who are currently in the midst of a campaign so mired in fiasco it makes the Commonwealth Games look like a festival of bureaucratic precision. Players completely shell-shocked. Fans in revolt. Ownership divided. In fact, the most competitive performances from the Liverpool Club we have seen all year have taken place in the high court. And waiting for them in the welcoming confines of Goodison Park are Everton. Their most bitter rivals.
Of course, it hasn’t exactly been the days of wine and roses over the other side of town this season either. The Toffees sit just one above the Reds on the table (that’s fourth last for those keeping count at home) and secured their first win of the season just last week. And if you thought this was merely a hiccup on the road to better things – Everton boss David Moyes disagrees with you, declaring that from here on out his club was in a
relegation battle.
The situation then could hardly be more dire. Not since John met Yoko have things looked so grim in Liverpool, and in Everton the forecasting of doom has already begun in earnest. Both clubs need the win desperately – and we can expect no holds barred sort of rules in this, the most surprising ‘avoid the relegation zone’ clash we have seen in recent memory.
Who gets the win? The way things are going for these two clubs, probably no-one.
Put me down for a draw. Cahill to score a goal (of course).
Draw, 1-1, Cahill
